A dental implant is a titanium post placed into the jawbone in place of a missing tooth root. Bone grows onto it over a few months, which locks it in place. A crown, a bridge or a full arch is then screwed onto the implant. Nothing rests on the gum and nothing comes out at night.

All-on-4 replaces a whole jaw of teeth with one fixed bridge carried on four implants. The two back implants go in at an angle to catch bone that is still dense, which often avoids a graft. Extractions, implants and a fixed provisional bridge usually happen in a single appointment.

Placement is done under local anesthetic, and most patients report it was less eventful than the extraction that came before it. Expect soreness and some swelling for a few days; for most people that is handled with over-the-counter painkillers and an ice pack. If the real problem is fear rather than pain, say so when you book — anxious patients get a longer slot and a slower pace.

Frequently it is not. All-on-4 exists for exactly this situation: the back implants go in at an angle to catch bone that is still dense, which often removes the need for the graft a conventional plan would demand. Nobody can settle it by looking in your mouth — it takes a 3D scan.

The part you care about is fast: extractions, implants and a fixed provisional bridge normally happen in one appointment, and you go home with teeth. Underneath, the implants need several months to fuse with bone before the definitive bridge goes on. Your dates are written into the plan you get at the consultation.

No. A fixed provisional bridge is screwed on the same day the implants go in, so you leave with teeth in place. It is temporary in the sense that it will be replaced by the definitive bridge once the implants have fused — not in the sense that it comes out at night.

The implant itself is designed to be permanent, and long-term studies of implant dentistry report high survival rates well past ten years. What wears is the part on top — the crown or the bridge — which is replaceable without touching the implant. Smoking, uncontrolled diabetes and skipped hygiene visits are the things that shorten the odds.

Age on its own is not a reason to rule implants out; bone quality and general health matter far more than the number. Patients in their seventies and eighties have implants placed routinely. The 3D scan and your medical history answer this question properly — a guess from across the room does not.

You can, but you should know the odds change. Smoking slows healing and raises the risk of an implant failing to fuse with bone. This is worth an honest conversation at the consultation rather than a lecture: cutting down around the surgery and the healing weeks measurably helps.

It is uncommon, and it is not the end of the treatment. A failed implant is removed, the site is allowed to heal, and in most cases another implant can be placed later — sometimes with a graft first. What matters is catching it early, which is what the follow-up appointments are for.

You brush it like teeth, and you clean underneath it. The bridge sits slightly above the gum, so a water flosser and a small interdental brush do the work floss does around natural teeth. You are shown the routine before you leave, and hygiene visits check what you cannot see.

They do a different job. A denture rests on the gum and moves; implants are anchored in bone and do not. That changes what you can bite, how you speak and whether anything has to come out at night. A denture is cheaper and quicker; an implant bridge is the one people stop thinking about.

The practice quotes one flat fee per arch, given to you in writing at the consultation. It covers every extraction, the implants — four, six or eight, whatever the bone calls for — any bone grafting, the bridge fitted on the day of surgery and the definitive full zirconia bridge months later. There are no additional fees.

Usually because they are not the same treatment. One may cover four implants where your scan needs six. One may stop at the temporary bridge and invoice the definitive one later. One may exclude the extractions or price grafting separately. Here it is a single flat fee per arch, so none of those questions arise.

Usually some of it. Most PPO plans contribute to extractions, and many contribute to part of the restoration; few cover a full arch outright. We file the claims for you and, on larger cases, request pre-determination in writing so the figure is confirmed before you commit.

Yes, and almost everybody does for a full arch. The practice works with CareCredit and Alphaeon Credit, both of which run monthly plans for dental treatment, some with interest-free periods. What you qualify for is decided by the lender, not by us, but the application is short and the answer comes back quickly.

Nothing happens to the fee. The arch is quoted as one flat price whether four, six or eight implants go in, and whether or not grafting is needed. That is deliberate: where more implants means more money, the number placed can end up being a commercial decision. Here it can only be a clinical one.

Four questions. How many implants is the number based on? Does it include the extractions? What happens to the price if I need a bone graft? And is the definitive bridge in the price, or only the temporary one fitted on the day of surgery? Most of the distance between a cheap quote and an expensive one lives in those four answers.

Full zirconia, on every case. It is milled rather than layered by hand, it does not stain the way acrylic does, and it is not offered as a paid upgrade here — it is what the arch fee includes. Some practices deliver acrylic on a titanium bar as standard and quote zirconia separately, which is one reason two quotes can look far apart.

Less than most people expect, and it depends on the tooth. A single implant is priced case by case, because what it needs varies — an extraction first, a graft, the kind of crown. You get the figure in writing at the consultation, itemised, before you decide anything.

Call the office and say it is an emergency. Same-day slots are kept for exactly this, and a broken tooth that hurts is the reason they exist. If the practice is closed, the message tells you what to do next.

The American Dental Association puts the window at about thirty minutes. Rinse the tooth in tap water without scrubbing it, and put it straight back into the socket if you can. If you cannot, keep it in milk or water and get to a dentist immediately — a dry tooth in a tissue does not survive.

A dry socket is what happens when the blood clot over an extraction site is lost too early, leaving bone exposed. It shows up as a deep ache two to four days after the extraction and it does not respond to painkillers the way normal soreness does. It is treatable — call, do not wait it out.

Because the gap is rarely the end of the story. A pulled tooth lets the neighbours drift, the opposing tooth over-erupts, and the bone in that spot shrinks. Replacing it later with an implant or a bridge costs more than saving it did. A root canal keeps the root you already have.

No. Healthy gums do not bleed. Bleeding is the earliest sign of gum inflammation, and at that stage it is reversible with a cleaning and a better routine at home. Left alone it progresses to periodontal disease, which destroys the bone that holds teeth in.

Twice a year for most people. Patients with gum disease, implants, diabetes or a heavy build-up of tartar are usually seen every three or four months. The interval is a clinical decision made from what your gums are actually doing, not a standard package.

At least once a day. There is an old line among dentists: floss only the teeth you want to keep. Roughly half of American adults have some form of gum disease, and it has been linked to heart disease and diabetes. A minute a day is the cheapest dentistry there is.

Decay is bacteria in plaque turning sugar into acid, and that acid dissolving the mineral in your enamel. Early on it is a white spot that can still remineralize. Once the surface breaks, it becomes a cavity that needs a filling — enamel does not grow back.

Bonding is tooth-coloured composite shaped onto the tooth in one visit — cheaper, quicker, and it stains and chips sooner. A veneer is a thin porcelain facing made in a lab and bonded on at a second visit. It costs more, holds its colour, and lasts substantially longer.

Usually, and there is more than one way. Bonding closes a small gap in a single visit. Veneers close a larger one and change the shape at the same time. Aligners move the teeth together instead of covering the space. Which one fits depends on the size of the gap and on your bite.

They can be, for about a week. Brushing with a sensitivity toothpaste for the week before and the week after the appointment reduces it noticeably, and a fluoride treatment afterwards helps too. The sensitivity is temporary; it does not mean the enamel has been damaged.

Invisalign straightens teeth with a series of clear removable aligners instead of fixed brackets and wires. Each set is worn for one to two weeks and moves the teeth a small step. They come out to eat and to brush, which is why adults choose them — but they only work while they are in.

When they are causing trouble or are clearly going to. Repeated infection around a partly erupted wisdom tooth, decay that cannot be cleaned, pressure damaging the tooth in front, or a cyst on the scan are the usual reasons. A wisdom tooth that is fully through, cleanable and painless is often best left alone.
