Where cosmetic work usually goes wrong

Teeth that are too white, too long and too identical to be anybody’s real teeth. It happens when the plan is a shade guide rather than a face. Your age, your lip line, how much tooth shows when you speak and when you laugh — those set the design. The material only executes it.

You see it before it is permanent

The new shape is drawn on screen over a photograph of your own face, and changed there until you are happy. That conversation costs nothing and commits you to nothing. It is far cheaper to move a line on a screen than to remake porcelain.

When the honest answer is to do less

A single chipped edge is often bonding, not a veneer. One dark tooth is sometimes internal whitening rather than a crown. A gap can close with aligners instead of being covered. Asking a dentist who also does implants has one advantage: there is no reason to sell you the bigger treatment.

Cosmetic work on top of implant work

When front teeth are being replaced with implants, the aesthetics and the surgery are the same problem. Here they are handled by the same person, so the implant goes in at the angle the final tooth needs rather than the angle that was easiest to reach.
